Math Activities Students, these are great activities to try at home with your family. Bring in a completed task to earn a sticker, prize, or bamboo buck! 1. Help your dad or mom cook dinner one night. Bring in a copy of the recipe you cooked and be prepared to share how you used measurements (cups, tablespoons, teaspoons) to help you make your dinner. 2. Graph the weather for one month. I can give you graph paper to use. Make sure you label all of the important parts of your graph and be prepared to discuss your results. 3. Bring in a grocery receipt and show at least two ways that you can make the total amount of money needed to purchase the groceries. 4. See how long it takes you to complete your homework each night for one week and find the mean number of minutes. I can give you a timer to borrow for this task. Bring your data and calculations in to share what you learned and how you found the mean. 5. If you take a road trip with your family, use a map to add the number of miles you will drive. Bring in the map with the starting and ending points marked and be prepared to share how you found the distance. 6. If you garden with your family, count the number of seeds you plant and measure the distance between them. When they start to grow, measure their heights. You can also calculate the perimeter and/or area of the garden. Bring in pictures or drawings of the garden to share. 7. If your family is having a party or holiday gathering, help your parents plan their budget for food and decoration expenses. Help them estimate the total cost of items by looking online and at catalogs for party ideas. Jot down your budget ideas and be prepared to share what you learned about using a budget to plan a party. 8. Record the start time and end time it takes to do a variety of activities at home (cook dinner, brush your teeth, do your homework). Calculate the elapsed time for these activties and be prepared to share what you have learned.

![]() Reading & Writing Activities Students, these are great activities to try at home with your family. Bring in a completed task to earn a sticker, prize, or bamboo buck! 1. Keep a daily journal and write at least five complete, descriptive sentences about something you did each day. Bring in one full week (7 days) of journals entries to share. 2. Help your mom or dad cook dinner and write a "How to" essay on the steps you needed to follow in order to cook the dinner. Bring in a copy of the recipe and your essay and discuss how they compare. 3. Write a descriptive poem about your favorite season or holiday. You can illustrate your poem if you want. Try to use rhyming! Bring in your poem to share. 4. Write a play about a normal weekend with your family. Remember to use stage directions and dialogue in your play. Bring in your play and be prepared to act it out with other students :) 5. Read a story to a family member. Before you read to story to them, make up at least five good questions to ask them after you read. Make sure you are able to discuss the answers with them. Bring in your questions and the story to share. 6. Read an article in the newspaper and paraphrase the article using key words and phrases. Bring in a copy of the article and your paraphrase to share.
