Students, these are great activities to try at home with your family.  Bring in a completed task to earn a sticker, prize, or bamboo buck!

1.   Help your dad or mom cook dinner one night.  Bring in a copy of the recipe you cooked and be prepared to share how you used measurements (cups, tablespoons, teaspoons) to help you make your dinner.

2.   Graph the weather for one month.  I can give you graph paper to use.  Make sure you label all of the important parts of your graph and be prepared to discuss your results.

3.   Bring in a grocery receipt and show at least two ways that you can make the total amount of money needed to purchase the groceries.

4.   See how long it takes you to complete your homework each night for one week and find the mean number of minutes.  I can give you a timer to borrow for this task.  Bring your data and calculations in to share what you learned and how you found the mean.

5.    If you take a road trip with your family, use a map to add the number of miles you will drive.  Bring in the map with the starting and ending points marked and be prepared to share how you found the distance.

6.    If you garden with your family, count the number of seeds you plant and measure the distance between them.  When they start to grow, measure their heights.  You can also calculate the perimeter and/or area of the garden.  Bring in pictures or drawings of the garden to share.

7.    If your family is having a party or holiday gathering, help your parents plan their budget for food and decoration expenses.  Help them estimate the total cost of items by looking online and at catalogs for party ideas.  Jot down your budget ideas and be prepared to share what you learned about using a budget to plan a party.

8.    Record the start time and end time it takes to do a variety of activities at home (cook dinner, brush your teeth, do your homework).  Calculate the elapsed time for these activties and be prepared to share what you have learned.
